Visual Journalism Group Leader

Is an integral figure in visual journalism education. Known for his insightful knowledge about photographic storytelling, innovative management ideas, steadfast ethical thinking, and evangelical charm. Teaches seminars and consults in areas of photojournalism, leadership, ethics, and managing diversity. Traveled to Moscow, South Africa, and Denmark, preaching excellence in photojournalism. Chaired Unity ’99 Visual Task Force; Poynter's representative to the Visual Edge board.

Contributed as a photo editor to three Pulitzer Prize-winning projects while at Newsday; juror for the Society for News Design, Annual Pictures of the Year Competition, and White House News Photographers’ Competition; the recipient of numerous awards including 1999 NPPA’s Joseph Costa Award for outstanding initiative, leadership, and service in photojournalism.Photographer and deputy director of photography, Newsday, Inc; photographer and assistant photo editor, The Oakland Press. B.S., photojournalism, Boston University; Multicultural Management Fellow, University of Missouri.
