Focuses on qualities of good writing and editing, and on effective leadership. Uses experiences as a reporter, editor, Pulitzer Prize jurist, and contributor to the Best Newspaper Writing series to teach techniques of award-winning writers. Also focuses on successful newsroom leaders and how writers and editors do their best work together. Draws on her study of news directors, editors, and other news executives in encouraging managers to examine their goals and behavior. Teaches by engaging groups in discussions on the language and methods of excellent journalism.
